Not thinking it through...
Jan. 28th, 2010 05:03 pmI realized I open a terminal window just so I can run "dc" quite a lot.
Today it occurred to me that there might be a dashboard widget that is a decent RPN calculator.
I found one that was a *beautiful* rendition of an HP 12C. "Perfect!" I thought. That'll be great! (so long as you can use the keyboard, and don't have to point and click on the pictures of the buttons.)
but... the "enter" key on the number pad doesn't work. It just beeps. You have to use the "enter" (return?) on the letter part of the keyboard. In its defense, I'm not using an Apple keyboard, or even one that's advertised as "working with Apple", but it works with everything else, so I have to assume it's not the keyboard's fault. But seriously, I can only assume that the writer had never used a number pad before. You can find it here. It's visually fantastic. But requiring "return" for "enter" is a deal breaker.
I *did* find one that does the right thing, called rpnCalc. It's not as pretty, but it shows 6 levels of stack, and the "enter" button on the keypad works.
