Has Brookline gone mental?

milktreeBrookline is considering a bylaw that would require fingerprints and NICS (Federal background checks) for a bunch of jobs including street vendor, used car salesman, taxi driver, liquor store employee, and icecream truck guy.

So, if you do anything bad, ever, your life is over, 'cuz you can't get any legitimate job, ever again, right? Is that really the right way to deal with former criminals?
Maybe the penalty for any crime at all should be exile to Australia or something, that way we'd know that everyone here was a "good" person.
