According to the a Florida appeals court, it's perfectly legal for police to track your location using the GPS in your cell phone.

Apparently you have no assumption of privacy outside of your house.

That seems kind of absurd to me. For instance, if you're in the back of a box truck, it's pretty reasonable to think that nobody would be able to see you in there. Or if you wear a disguise.

The thing I find most frightening about this sort of thing is that it can be totally automated, so nobody has to care about *you* before you're already in trouble. Take too many trips to the garden supply center? You might be building a bomb! Drive over state lines too much? You're probably avoiding sales tax!

I don't think it's a conspiracy, or that "the government" is trying turn this country into a police state, I think it's a bunch of well meaning people trying to do their jobs, who either have no understanding whatsoever of the consequences these actions have or don't believe the consequences are real. Maybe that's the most frightening part.
