I just ordered some stuff from crucial.com. They make you create an account (why does everyone seem to do that?) Part of creating an account is to come up with a clever password.
So, I tried this:
cr**c!@l
That's "crucial", spelled funny with *, ! and @ for o, i, and a.
Easy to remember, hard to guess.
But... no, the site rejected it. It requires "alphanumeric only, 6 to 12 characters"
??? Is their database software so bad they can't deal with anything outside a-z,0-9?
I picked a different password that involved both "crucial" and swear words... mis-spelled of course.
