Lazy, stupid, or something else?

milktreeI can't believe I just had this exchange:
Salesman at Sears: "You need to do your research."
Me: "Yes, I'm doing it right now. That's why I'm here talking to a refrigerator salesman."
Maybe I'm still young and idealistic, but I had this idea that talking to a trained salesman in the fridge department would be the right way to find out what's available and what the features mean and why I might care about them. The guy (and I've seen this with too many guys) did very little more than read the tag that's on the fridge to me.
Here's another gem:
Him: "How much do you want to spend?"
Me: "That depends on what I get for it."
Him: [nonplussed silence]
I didn't bother to ask about clearance requirements or difficulty/procedure for getting the cat hair out of the condenser coils once it becomes necessary.
