Mar. 30th, 2009 12:50 pmApparently a bunch of states have made Salvia Divinorum illegal. A bunch of others haven't (yet).
One distraught mother of a boy who smoked some and committed suicide blames the stuff. (he probably had orange juice and drank soft drinks and ate some cereal too, but they don't get blamed )
She reports that they had a conversation about Salvia, where she was trying to get him to not smoke it, and he said, "but mom, it's legal, it must be ok!"
That's absurd. Poison ivy is legal, but you wouldn't smoke that.
It's also absurd that "it's legal" was sufficient for her to back off.
"Legal" doesn't, and shouldn't mean "good for you", or even "good", or even "not dangerous".
Furthermore, just because something is dangerous, that doesn't mean it should be illegal.
Why can't people take responsibility for themselves?
