I'm taking this TIG welding class at Artisans' Asylum in Somerville. It's very well taught by a very sociable and experienced welder. I'd recommend it.

Last night was my second class; before it I spend some time practicing at my friends' house. Here's my second attempt at a notched round tube "T" weld. I'm sure it has a better, more technical name. Correct me in the comments:

They're not great by any standard of experienced welder, but I'm pretty happy with them having only three hours of training and practice combined.

Then I went to the class and proceeded to go down hill. It turns out learning stuff is tiring, and fatigue makes for bad welds.

I should have saved the instructor's demo piece, it's beautiful, and he did it effortlessly. Wow... I guess 15 years of practice makes a big difference.
