The Breakfast Club...

... came out in 1985. That's 23 years ago.

I just saw a JC Penny back-to-school type advertisement which was basically an homage to The Breakfast Club, but done with kids. By "kids" I mean, "people of current high school age". By "people of current high school age" I mean, "people who weren't born for another 7 years when The Breakfast Club came out".

Ugh.

Maybe you can see it here.

What's most interesting is that any "kids" who see that will have no idea what any of those iconic sets, cuts, music clips, or action snippets are. If it makes any impact on them at all, they'll eventually see the actual movie and think something like, "hey! Is this a spoof of that commercial?"

I remember when I saw Casablanca for the first time I was amazed at how much almost everything in that movie has become almost cliché. I can't quite imagine that The Breakfast Club will ever reach that level though.
